The CH410 and CH411 Peter’s Table and Chair were made during the Second World War by Hans J. Wegner for his friend and fellow furniture designer Børge Mogensen. A christening gift for Mogensen’s son, Peter, it perfectly combines function and playful fun.
Finding quality gifts in wartime Europe was not easy, so when Wegner needed a suitable christening gift for Peter, the son of his friend and fellow furniture designer Børge Mogensen, he took matters into his own hands. An accomplished cabinetmaker, Wegner conceived and built a simple yet ingenious table and chair set that would work as both a functional object and an engaging toy. Designed as a life-size 3D puzzle in untreated beech, the set is easily assembled without the use of tools, an all-wood construction, the table has no sharp edges and every single element is crafted from untreated beech, making it completely safe for children of all ages. Originally designed as part of a set, the CH410 Peter’s Chair can be paired with the CH411 Peter’s Table. Together, these pieces reveal the extent of Wegner’s innovative spirit as well as his superior ability to achieve simplicity while honoring the needs and natural interests of children.
